1986–2004: Early life

Lady Gaga was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta in New York City on March 28, 1986, to an Italian American family, the eldest child of Joseph Germanotta, internet entrepreneur, and Cynthia (née Bissett) She learned to play piano from the age of four, went on to write her first piano ballad at 13 and began performing at open mike nights by age 14. At the age of 11, Gaga attended Convent of the Sacred Heart, a private Roman Catholic school on Manhattan's Upper East Side,[12][13] but has stressed that she does not come from a wealthy background, saying that her parents "both came from lower-class families, so we've worked for everything – my mother worked eight to eight out of the house, in telecommunications, and so did my father." An avid thespian in high school musicals, Gaga portrayed lead roles as Adelaide in Guys and Dolls and Philia in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. She described her academic life in high school as "very dedicated, very studious, very disciplined" but also "a bit insecure" as she told in an interview, "I used to get made fun of for being either too provocative or too eccentric, so I started to tone it down. I didn’t fit in, and I felt like a freak." Acquaintances dispute that she did not fit in school. "She had a core group of friends; she was a good student. She liked boys a lot, but singing was No. 1," recalled a former high school classmate. Referring to her "expressive, free spirit", Gaga told Elle magazine "I'm left-handed!"

At age 17, Gaga gained early admission to the New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and lived in a NYU dorm on 11th Street. There she studied music and improved her songwriting skills by composing essays and analytical papers focusing on topics such as art, religion, social issues and politics. Gaga felt that she was more creative than some of her classmates. "Once you learn how to think about art, you can teach yourself," she said. By the second semester of her sophomore year, she withdrew from the school to focus on her musical career. Her father agreed to pay her rent for a year, on the condition that she re-enroll for Tisch if she was unsuccessful. "I left my entire family, got the cheapest apartment I could find, and ate shit until somebody would listen," she said.
2005–07: Career beginnings

Gaga had initially signed with Def Jam Recordings at the age of 19, although she was dropped by the label after only three months. Shortly after, her former management company introduced her to songwriter and producer RedOne, whom they also managed. The first song she produced with RedOne was "Boys Boys Boys", a mash-up inspired by Mötley Crüe's "Girls, Girls, Girls" and AC/DC's "T.N.T." She moved into an apartment on the Lower East Side and recorded a couple of songs with hip-hop singer Grandmaster Melle Mel for an audio book accompanying the children's book The Portal in the Park by Cricket Casey. She also started the Stefani Germanotta Band with some friends from NYU. They recorded an EP of their ballads at a studio underneath a liquor store in New Jersey, becoming a local fixture at the downtown Lower East Side club scene. She began experimenting with drugs soon after, while performing at neo-burlesque shows. Her father did not understand the reason behind her drug intake and could not look at her for several months.Music producer Rob Fusari, who helped her write some of her earlier songs, compared some of her vocal harmonies to that of Freddie Mercury. Fusari helped create the moniker Gaga, after the Queen song "Radio Ga Ga". Gaga was in the process of trying to come up with a stage name when she received a text message from Fusari that read "Lady Gaga."He explained,

Every day, when Stef came to the studio, instead of saying hello, I would start singing 'Radio Ga Ga'. That was her entrance song. [Lady Gaga] was actually a glitch; I typed 'Radio Ga Ga' in a text and it did an autocorrect so somehow 'Radio' got changed to 'Lady'. She texted me back, "That's it." After that day, she was Lady Gaga. She’s like, "Don't ever call me Stefani again."

She was known thereafter as Lady Gaga. The New York Post, however, has reported that this story is incorrect, and that the name resulted from a marketing meeting. Throughout 2007, Gaga collaborated with performance artist Lady Starlight, who helped create her onstage fashions. The pair began playing gigs at downtown club venues like the Mercury Lounge, The Bitter End, and the Rockwood Music Hall, with their live performance art piece known as "Lady Gaga and the Starlight Revue." Billed as "The Ultimate Pop Burlesque Rockshow", their act was a low-fi tribute to 1970s variety acts. In August 2007, Gaga and Starlight were invited to play at the American Lollapalooza music festival. The show was critically acclaimed, and their performance received positive reviews. Having initially focused on avant-garde electronic dance music, Gaga found her musical niche when she began to incorporate pop melodies and the glam rock of David Bowie and Queen into her music.

Fusari sent the songs he produced with Gaga to his friend, producer and record executive Vincent Herbert.Herbert was quick to sign her to his label Streamline Records, an imprint of Interscope Records, upon its establishment in 2007. She credited Herbert as the man who discovered her, adding "I really feel like we made pop history, and we're gonna keep going". Having already served as an apprentice songwriter under an internship at Famous Music Publishing, which was later acquired by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Gaga subsequently struck a music publishing deal with Sony/ATV. As a result, she was hired to write songs for Britney Spears and labelmates New Kids on the Block, Fergie, and the Pussycat Dolls. While Gaga was writing at Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio. He then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live Distribution and later called her his "franchise player." Gaga continued her collaboration with RedOne in the studio for a week on her debut album, spawning the future singles "Just Dance" and "Poker Face." She also joined the roster of Cherrytree Records, an Interscope imprint established by producer and songwriter Martin Kierszenbaum, after co-writing four songs with Kierszenbaum including the single "Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)."
2008–10: The Fame and The Fame Monster

By 2008, Gaga had relocated to Los Angeles, working closely with her record label to finalize her debut album The Fame. She combined different genres on the album, "from Def Leppard drums and hand claps to metal drums on urban tracks". The Fame received positive reviews from critics; according to the music review aggregation of Metacritic, it garnered an average score of 71/100.The album peaked at number one in Austria, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Ireland, and the top-five in Australia and the United States.[41][42] Worldwide, The Fame has sold over twelve million copies. Its lead single "Just Dance", topped the charts in six countries—Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States—and later received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Dance Recording. The following single, "Poker Face", was an even greater success, reaching number-one in almost all major music markets in the world, including the United Kingdom and the United States. It won the award for Best Dance Recording at the 52nd Grammy Awards, over nominations for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. The Fame was nominated for Album of the Year; it won the Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album.Although her first concert tour happened as an opening act for fellow Interscope pop group, the reformed New Kids on the Block, she ultimately headlined her own concert tour, The Fame Ball Tour, which began on March 2009, and was critically appreciated.

The cover of the annual "Hot 100" issue of Rolling Stone in May 2009 featured a semi-nude Gaga wearing only strategically placed plastic bubbles. In the issue she said that while she was beginning her career in the New York club scene, she was romantically involved with a heavy metal drummer. She described their relationship and break-up, saying of it, "I was his Sandy, and he was my Danny [of Grease], and I just broke." He later became an inspiration behind some of the songs on The Fame. She was nominated for a total of nine awards at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, winning the award for "Best New Artist", while her single "Paparazzi" won two awards for "Best Art Direction" and "Best Special Effects." In October, Gaga received Billboard magazine's Rising Star of 2009 award. She attended the Human Rights Campaign's "National Dinner" the same month, before marching in the National Equality March in Washington, D.C. Gaga released The Fame Monster, a collection of eight songs that dealt with the darker side of fame as experienced by her over the course of 2008–2009, while travelling around the world and are expressed through a monster metaphor. Her second concert tour, The Monster Ball Tour, was announced in support of The Fame Monster and began in November 2009."Bad Romance" was released as the first single from the album and topped the charts in eighteen countries, while reaching the top-two in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. "Speechless", a song from The Fame Monster, was performed at The 2009 Royal Variety Performance where Gaga met and sang for Queen Elizabeth II.

When interviewed by the journalist, the singer went to dismiss the claim that she is intersex as an urban legend, responding to a question on this issue by stating: "At first it was very strange and everyone sorta said, 'That's really quite a story!' The second single from The Fame Monster, "Telephone", which features R&B singer Beyoncé, became her fourth UK number-one single. In March, Rob Fusari sued Gaga's production company Mermaid Music LLC, claiming that he was entitled to a 20% share of its earnings. Gaga's lawyer Charles Ortner described the agreement with Fusari as "unlawful" and declined to comment. In August, the New York Supreme Court dismissed the lawsuit. 2010–present: Born This Way By March 2010, in an interview with MTV United Kingdom, Gaga stated that she had begun work on her new studio album and already finished writing the core theme of it. Three months later, in an interview with Rolling Stone, she stated that her second studio album was finished. She remarked: "It came so quickly. I've been working on it for months, and I feel very strongly that it's finished right now. Some artists take years. I don't. I write music every day." Wee Meng Chee (Chinese: 黄明志; pinyin: Huáng Míng Zhì) or Namewee; (born 1983 in Muar, Johor) is a Malaysian Chinese of Hainanese descent. He is fondly and widely known under his alias nickname Namewee (a bilingual pun) because his name in Mandarin (Chinese: 明志; pinyin: Míng Zhì) sounds like the Mandarin word (Chinese: 名字; pinyin: míngzi) literally meaning "name".

Wee gained popularity after releasing a controversial song fused with the national anthem of Malaysia, Negaraku, which describes the state of the country and its government. In the following weeks, the song increasingly drew both praise and criticism from various quarters of Malaysian society. The song is viewed as ridiculing the national anthem is seen as something offensive to most Malays. While most of the Chinese and Indian counterparts being supportive of namewee . His fansite at Facebook currently has 432,415 of Fans.

Biography

Born and raised in the town of Muar, Johor, Malaysia; Wee was educated in SRJK Chung Hwa 1B and Chung Hwa High School. He is formerly an undergraduate student majoring in Mass Communication at Ming Chuan University, in Taoyuan, Taiwan ROC.

It was during his secondary school days that he composed the first of 500 songs in his life. Around the same time, Wee and a few good friends formed a band named "大娘乐队" and won several competitions.

In addition to studying abroad, Wee composes and performs hip hop music by using what the public classifies as kind of downstream approach and dirty words in various languages, releasing several songs with complementing music videos on YouTube. Among the songs released by Namewee include Muar's Mandarin (麻坡的华语) and Kawanku, a critical song directed at Malaysian Chinese and Malay people.

Despite the controversy surrounding Negarakuku, Wee released his first, self-titled album, 明志 Namewee, in Malaysia on September 3, 2007, The album was completed in May, and does not contain Negarakuku.

Negarakuku
Wee's sudden rise to stardom is the result of his highly controversial piece - Negarakuku. Its Chinese title reads 我愛我的國家 Negarakuku (2007大馬觀光年主題曲) translated as "I Love My Country Negarakuku (Visit Malaysia 2007 Theme Song)".

The structure of the song consists of two major components: the rapping, which is exclusively composed and performed by Wee, and Malaysia's anthem, Negaraku, which is split into three segments between the rapping and sung out in groups of two or three verses. While the national anthem is fragmented and sung in an "R&B" tone, Wee had no intention of altering the melody and lyrics of the anthem, retaining the anthem's original theme and meaning. The arrangement used by Wee follows one of the iterations of the national anthem as the Malaysian government has altered the anthem three times previously. This form follows the original arrangement of the anthem prior to the first change by the Government of Malaysia. The rap lyrics are uttered in Mandarin with occasional Hokkien passages and words, while verses of the national anthem are sung in their original, Malay form.

Negarakuku covers elements of daily lives in Malaysia from Wee's perspectives, including police corruption, inefficient public services and biased government policies. Two other portions of his song rudely points to Muslims' call for prayer and laid-back lifestyle of Malay people which mostly as the Muslims; one segment mentions the azaan to Fajr, the earliest of the five daily prayers by Muslims, described without culture and religious respect as a "morning call" that would wake the sleppy Wee up at 5 a.m. ("早上五点, 还有 morning call 会叫我起床"), as different mosques in the vicinity occasionally conduct the same azaan to the point they seemingly sing a "love song" in unison with voices that ululates in an R&B song ("有时几间一起唱, 听起来好像情歌对唱, 声音拗来拗去像唱 R&B 一样"). Two other verses describe people who "cover their heads" and walk slowly ("他们把头包起来, 慢慢走慢慢过马路"). In the beginning of the song, Wee dedicates the song to "all Malaysians, especially the Government." Nevertheless, the rap lyrics were intended to describe the situation in Malaysia from Wee's eyes ( who conveniently further his study in Taiwan), leaving listeners to determine on their own the right or wrong of any observation Wee raised in the song. A lower audio and video quality of the music video for the song was uploaded to YouTube by Wee on July 15, 2007, featuring a montage of photographs of Malaysia, a Visit Malaysia 2007 video and a video of Wee rapping against the backdrop of a Malaysian flag. The video ends depicting both a Chinese caption thanking unnamed parties for videos and images provided for the montage, and an English/Malay caption asking not to be sued as he has no money ("please don't sue me, saya takde duit"). The video was removed by Wee amid pressure on July 23, 2007, but copies of the video, including one with English and Malay subtitles of the song's Chinese lyrics, are still available on the site. The videos received an average of over 100,000 hits; a duplicate version of Wee's original video, uploaded in the middle of July 2007, received a total of 1.4 million hits as of early September 2007.
Reception

Public reaction towards the song is virtually split. Immediate reactions in the form of YouTube comments range from being mostly critic; fair agreement with Wee or support to him, few attacks and threats towards Wee, to racist remarks directed towards both Chinese people and Malay people in general. Official criticism of the song was primarily centered around the song's anti-government undertones, which resulted in comments by members of the Malaysian parliament to take action on him. However, as Wee was in a foreign country, he was out of Malaysia's jurisdiction.

Accusation of disrespect towards Islam and Malay people were brought up by Malay tabloid Harian Metro, claiming that Wee's song had mocked Islam and the mindset of Malay people. Wee disputes this claim by stating that the paper, as well as several Malaysian news channels, fail to objectively report facts, resulting in misunderstandings of his song. His comments were further directed at Metro, claiming that the paper did not understand the implicit meaning of his song's lyrics before concluding its nature. He added the paper had not provided any translations of the song, Mandarin and Hokkien not being widely used among the Malay-speaking community, resulting in their dependence on local media channels for interpretations of the song.

In an August 9, 2007 telephone interview from Taiwan, Wee clarified that the song was merely reflecting satirical social commentary of life in Malaysia as himself as a local Chinese, and added humorous remarks solely for the pleasure of the Chinese community. Wee posted a blog entry typed in both Malay and Traditional Chinese on August 12, in an attempt to clarify the nature of his song and its lyrics.

On August 14, 2007 (and later, on August 16 on his blog), Wee issued a public apology to the government and Malaysians who found it offensive. While the Malaysian Chinese Association accepted Wee's apology with Zainuddin Maidin, Malaysia's Minister of Information, urging Malaysians to do the same, the cabinet rejected Wee's apology; Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz added that "the law will take its course." Other actions voiced by the government include bringing Wee to court, probably under the Sedition Act, as he had insulted the symbol of the nation, and further action against YouTube.

On August 21, 2007 the Home Minister issued a gag order on all mainstream media to cease reporting on Wee. No major presses or television channels in Malaysia has covered Wee or Negarakuku since thereof.

Following his return to Malaysia in 2008 to celebrate National Day on August 31, Wee was summoned by the Royal Malaysian Police to attend a questioning on September 23. After the interview, Wee claimed that the police wanted to close the file on the matter and that he did not think that there would be any action taken against him. However, the police later stated Wee was being investigated under the Sedition Act and the matter would be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor.
Other Notable Works

A small controversy erupted when a three-parted video called "邱老師 ABC 時間", directed by Wee was released. In the video, a close friend of Wee, known as "邱老師" introduces the English alphabet from an adult-oriented perspective. It soon became notorious from its heavy use of profanity as well as orgasm sounds. Netizens turned against him, calling the video "pornographic" and "unrefined". However, the biggest backlash came when the board of directors of Chung Hwa High School decided to sue Wee, as the video was filmed in the school compound. Which the lawsuit is lifted afterwards . Most malaysian chinese and indian has been supportive of namewee because most of the time, the lyrics cover the elements of daily lives in Malaysia and the view of most of the chinese and indian on government and it is mostly straightforward ,direct but true in their perspective , while malay in the other hand , condemn namewee acts as an insult to them .

In July 2009, Namewee composed the theme and ending songs for the latest Singaporean film 'Where Got Ghost?' which was released on 13 August 2009.

He acted as the principal cast in "Potong Saga" and as the supporting cast in "Meter".

Namewee also made a video clip in the late of October 2009, entitled 'Namewee fuck TNB 停電了!黃明志大鬧國家能源局'.In the video, Namewee's house and Muar suffer a blackout at night, but the local TNB (Tenaga Nasional Berhad) branch office remains lit, and his brother would be sitting for the examinations the next day, so Wee went to TNB to look for answers, but the ensuing quarrel led the security guards to escort him out of the facility. After that, Wee scolded TNB and told them to 'go back to sleep'. The ending song is dedicated to attacking TNB, parodically insulting 'TNB' ('Tenaga Nasional Berhad') as "Tiu Nia Bu".

In May 2010, Wee made a music video which played by himself and his friends (include "邱老師"), to celebrate the 2010 FIFA World Cup by playing soccer with the women.

On August 26, 2010, Wee made a new music video posting on Youtube criticizing a school principal in Kulaijaya who was reported to have made racist remarks during a school assembly on August 12, 2010. The clip contained obscene language condemning the school principal and the Education Ministry. However, Wee was asked to give statement in Kuala Lumpur police station and also Cyberjaya Investigation Unit for two times later.

Early life

Curtis Jackson III grew up in the South Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, in New York City. He grew up without a father and was raised by his mother, Sabrina, who gave birth to him at the age of fifteen. Sabrina, a cocaine dealer, raised Jackson until the age of twelve, when she was murdered in 1988. Twenty-seven at the time, she became unconscious after someone drugged her drink. She was then left for dead after the gas in her apartment was turned on and the windows shut closed. After her death, Jackson moved into his grandparents' house with his eight aunts and uncles. He recalls, "My grandmother told me, 'Your mother's not coming home. She's not gonna come back to pick you up. You're gonna stay with us now.' That's when I started adjusting to the streets a little bit".

Jackson began boxing around the age of eleven. At fourteen, a neighbor opened a boxing gym for local kids. "When I wasn't killing time in school, I was sparring in the gym or selling crack on the strip", he recalled. In the mid 1980s, he competed in the Junior Olympics as an amateur boxer. He recounts, "I was competitive in the ring and hip-hop is competitive too... I think rappers condition themselves like boxers, so they all kind of feel like they're the champ". At the age of twelve, Jackson began dealing narcotics when his grandparents thought he was at after-school programs. He also took guns and drug money to school. In the tenth grade, he was caught by metal detectors at Andrew Jackson High School. He later stated, "I was embarrassed that I got arrested like that... After I got arrested I stopped hiding it. On June 29, 1994, Jackson was arrested for helping to sell four vials of cocaine to an undercover police officer. He was arrested again three weeks later when police searched his home and found heroin, ten ounces of crack cocaine, and a starter gun. He was sentenced to three to nine years in prison, but managed to serve six months in a shock incarceration boot camp where he earned his GED. Jackson said that he did not use cocaine himself, he only sold it. He adopted the nickname "50 Cent" as a metaphor for "change". The name was derived from Kelvin Martin, a 1980s Brooklyn robber known as "50 Cent". Jackson chose the name "because it says everything I want it to say. I'm the same kind of person 50 Cent was. I provide for myself by any means".

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) is a US-based multinational electronic commerce company. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, it is America's largest online retailer, with nearly three times the Internet sales revenue of the runner up, Staples, Inc., as of January 2010.

Jeff Bezos founded Amazon.com, Inc. in 1994 and launched it online in 1995. The company was originally named Cadabra, Inc., but the name was changed when it was discovered that people sometimes heard the name as "Cadaver." The album cover artwork, a 2009 commissioned oil painting by African American artist Kadir Nelson, features two cherubs placing a crown on Jackson's head against a mural depicting the images of the singer at different stages in his career.Nelson said that Jackson approached him several years ago to create a project detailing his life and career. The project stalled, but was revived in 2009 by one of the estate's executors, John McClain.

The original Sony publicity release of the album cover featured the Prince symbol in a bubble next to the tiger's head. This sparked discussion on the internet as to whether Prince was involved on any of the new songs. The official response from Prince's camp was "No permission was granted"and the symbol has since been removed from the cover on all official Sony websites.

"Breaking News" was the first song from the album to be unveiled. On November 5, a video teaser for the song was released on Jackson's official website. It opens with a montage of various television journalists reporting breaking news about Jackson, followed by the musical introduction of a song.The video refers to the tabloid stories and legal troubles that plagued Jackson in the years leading up to his death.On November 8, 2010, the full length version of the song was released,and made available on MichaelJackson.com for one week.

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, singer-songwriter, and philanthropist. Referred to as the King of Pop, Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. His contribution to music, dance and fashion, along with a much-publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. The eighth child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5 in the mid-1960s, and began his solo career in 1971.

In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs including "Beat It", "Billie Jean" and "Thriller", were credited with transforming the medium into an art form and a promotional tool, and the popularity of these videos helped to bring the relatively new television channel MTV to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made him a staple on MTV in the 1990s. Through stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. The British Invasion
Beatles' releases in the United States were initially delayed for nearly a year when Capitol Records, EMI's American subsidiary, declined to issue either "Please Please Me" or "From Me to You". Negotiations with independent US labels led to the release of some singles, but issues with royalties and derision of The Beatles' "moptop" hairstyle posed further obstacles. Once Capitol did start to issue the material, rather than releasing the LPs in their original configuration, they compiled distinct US albums from an assortment of the band's recordings, and issued songs of their own choice as singles. American chart success came suddenly after a CBS news broadcast about British Beatlemania triggered great demand, leading Capitol to rush-release "I Want to Hold Your Hand" in December 1963. The band's US debut was already scheduled to take place a few weeks later.

When The Beatles left the United Kingdom on 7 February 1964, an estimated four thousand fans gathered at Heathrow, waving and screaming as the aircraft took off. The Beatles toured internationally in June. Forced to accept that neither they nor their audiences could hear the details of their performance, the band grew increasingly bored with the routine of concert touring. At the end of the August tour they were introduced to Bob Dylan in New York at the instigation of journalist Al Aronowitz. In the wake of the moderate success of "Love Me Do", "Please Please Me" met with a more emphatic reception, reaching number two in the UK singles chart after its January 1963 release. Martin originally intended to record the band's debut LP live at The Cavern Club. Finding it had "the acoustic ambience of an oil tank", he elected to create a "live" album in one session at Abbey Road Studios. Ten songs were recorded for Please Please Me, accompanied on the album by the four tracks already released on the two singles. Recalling how the band "rushed to deliver a debut album, bashing out Please Please Me in a day", an Allmusic reviewer comments, "Decades after its release, the album still sounds fresh, precisely because of its intense origins."Lennon said little thought went into composition at the time; he and McCartney were "just writing songs à la Everly Brothers, à la Buddy Holly, pop songs with no more thought of them than that—to create a sound. And the words were almost irrelevant."

Released in March 1963, the album reached number one on the British chart. This began a run during which eleven of The Beatles' twelve studio albums released in the United Kingdom through 1970 hit number one. The band's third single, "From Me to You", came out in April and was also a chart-topping hit. It began an almost unbroken run of seventeen British number one singles for the band, including all but one of those released over the next six years. On its release in August, the band's fourth single, "She Loves You", achieved the fastest sales of any record in the UK up to that time, selling three-quarters of a million copies in under four weeks. It became their first single to sell a million copies, and remained the biggest-selling record in the UK until 1978 when it was topped by "Mull of Kintyre", performed by McCartney and his post-Beatles band Wings. The popularity of The Beatles' music brought with it increasing press attention. They responded with a cheeky, irreverent attitude that defied what was expected of pop musicians and inspired even more interest.

The Beatles' iconic "drop-T" logo, based on an impromptu sketch by instrument retailer and designer Ivor Arbiter, also made its debut in 1963. The logo was first used on the front of Starr's bass drum, which Epstein and Starr purchased from Arbiter's London shop. The band toured the UK three times in the first half of the year: a four-week tour that began in February preceded three-week tours in March and May–June. As their popularity spread, a frenzied adulation of the group took hold, dubbed " Beatlemania". Although not billed as tour leaders, they overshadowed other acts including Tommy Roe, Chris Montez and Roy Orbison, US artists who had established great popularity in the UK.Performances everywhere, both on tour and at many one-off shows across the UK, were greeted with riotous enthusiasm by screaming fans.Police found it necessary to use high-pressure water hoses to control the crowds, and there were debates in Parliament concerning the thousands of police officers putting themselves at risk to protect the group.In late October, a five-day tour of Sweden saw the band venture abroad for the first time since the Hamburg chapter. Returning to the UK, they were greeted at Heathrow Airport in heavy rain by thousands of fans in "a scene similar to a shark-feeding frenzy", attended by fifty journalists and photographers and a BBC Television camera crew. The next day, The Beatles began yet another UK tour, scheduled for six weeks. By now, they were indisputably the headliners. Please Please Me was still topping the album chart. The Beatles were an English rock band, formed in Liverpool in 1960, and one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music.From 1962 the group consisted of John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals). Rooted in skiffle and 1950s rock and roll, the group later worked in many genres ranging from pop ballads to psychedelic rock, often incorporating classical and other elements in innovative ways. The nature of their enormous popularity, which first emerged as the "Beatlemania" fad, transformed as their songwriting grew in sophistication. The group came to be perceived as the embodiment of progressive ideals, seeing their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s.

With an early five-piece line-up of Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe (bass) and Pete Best (drums), The Beatles built their reputation in Liverpool and Hamburg clubs over a three-year period from 1960. Sutcliffe left the group in 1961, and Best was replaced by Starr the following year. Formation and early years (1957–1962)

Aged sixteen, singer and guitarist John Lennon formed the skiffle group The Quarrymen with some Liverpool schoolfriends in March 1957.Fifteen-year-old Paul McCartney joined as a guitarist after he and Lennon met that July.When McCartney in turn invited George Harrison to watch the group the following February, the fourteen-year-old joined as lead guitarist.By 1960, Lennon's schoolfriends had left the group, he had begun studies at the Liverpool College of Art and the three guitarists were playing rock and roll whenever they could get a drummer.Joining on bass in January, Lennon's fellow student Stuart Sutcliffe suggested changing the band name to "The Beetles" as a tribute to Buddy Holly and The Crickets, and they became "The Beatals" for the first few months of the year.After trying other names including "Johnny and the Moondogs", "Long John and The Beetles" and "The Silver Beatles", the band finally became "The Beatles" in August. The lack of a permanent drummer posed a problem when the group's unofficial manager, Allan Williams, arranged a resident band booking for them in Hamburg, Germany.Before the end of August they auditioned and hired drummer Pete Best, and the five-piece band left for Hamburg four days later, contracted to fairground showman Bruno Koschmider for a 48-night residency. Bruno had the idea of bringing in rock groups to play in various clubs. They had this formula. It was a huge nonstop show, hour after hour, with a lot of people lurching in and the other lot lurching out. And the bands would play all the time to catch the passing traffic. In an American red-light district, they would call it nonstop striptease.

Many of the bands that played in Hamburg were from Liverpool...It was an accident. Bruno went to London to look for bands. But he happened to meet a Liverpool entrepreneur in Soho, who was down in London by pure chance. And he arranged to send some bands over.

Harrison, only 17 years old in August 1960, obtained permission to stay in Hamburg by lying to the German authorities about his age. Initially placing The Beatles at the Indra Club, Koschmider moved them to the Kaiserkeller in October after the Indra was closed down due to noise complaints.When they violated their contract by performing at the rival Top Ten Club, Koschmider reported the underage Harrison to the authorities, leading to his deportation in November.McCartney and Best were arrested for arson a week later when they set fire to a condom nailed to a wall in their room; they too were deported.Lennon returned to Liverpool in mid-December, while Sutcliffe remained in Hamburg with his new German fiancée, Astrid Kirchherr, for another month. Kirchherr took the first professional photos of the group and cut Sutcliffe's hair in the German "exi" (existentialist) style of the time, a look later adopted by the other Beatles.

During the next two years, the group were resident for further periods in Hamburg. They used Preludin both recreationally and to maintain their energy through all-night performances.Sutcliffe decided to leave the band in early 1961 and resume his art studies in Germany, so McCartney took up bass. German producer Bert Kaempfert contracted what was now a four-piece to act as Tony Sheridan's backing band on a series of recordings. Credited to "Tony Sheridan and The Beat Brothers", the single "My Bonnie", recorded in June and released four months later, reached number 32 in the Musikmarkt chart.The Beatles were also becoming more popular back home in Liverpool. During one of the band's frequent appearances there at The Cavern Club, they encountered Brian Epstein, a local record store owner and music columnist.When the band appointed Epstein manager in January 1962, Kaempfert agreed to release them from the German record contract. After Decca Records rejected the band with the comment "Guitar groups are on the way out, Mr. Epstein", George Martin signed the group to EMI's Parlophone label. News of a tragedy greeted them on their return to Hamburg in April. Meeting them at the airport, a stricken Kirchherr told them of Sutcliffe's death from a brain haemorrhage.

In Liverpool, the Merseybeat movement was gathering force. The band had its first recording session under Martin's direction at EMI Studios in London in June 1962. Martin complained to Epstein about Best's drumming and suggested the band use a session drummer in the studio. Instead, Best was replaced by Ringo Starr. Starr, who left Rory Storm and the Hurricanes to join The Beatles, had already performed with them in Best's occasional absence. Martin still hired session drummer Andy White for one session. White played on the single "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You". Circus is the sixth studio album by American pop singer Britney Spears. It was released on December 2nd, 2008 by Jive Records. Spears started working on the album earlier that year with a range of new producers, as well as with Bloodshy & Avant and Danja, combining the electropop and urban sounds from her previous album Blackout with producers of her first early pop hits such as Max Martin. The album was released on Spears' birthday. The album received mostly positive reviews from music critics. After its release, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making Spears the youngest female artist in history to have all of her albums debut at number one, thus earning a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.[6]

The album's first single, "Womanizer", was an international hit, reaching the top of the charts in over twenty countries worldwide, including the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. The second single, "Circus", debuted at number three in the USA. The single "If U Seek Amy" managed to reach top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. Relapse is the sixth studio album by American rapper Eminem, released May 15, 2009, on Interscope Records. It is his first album of original material since Encore (2004), following a five-year hiatus from recording due to his addiction to sleeping pills and issues with writer's block. Recording sessions for the album took place during 2007 to 2009 at several recording studios, and production was handled primarily by Dr. Dre, Mark Batson, and Eminem. Conceptually, Relapse concerns the ending of his drug rehabilitation, rapping after a fictional relapse, and the return of his Slim Shady alter-ego.

One of the most anticipated album releases of 2009, Relapse debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 608,000 copies in its first week. It produced three singles that attained chart success and has been certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album received generally mixed reviews from most music critics, who were mostly divided in their responses towards Eminem's lyrics. It earned him two Grammy Awards and has sold over two million copies in the United States.

In the initial recording stages of Relapse, record producer and long-time Detroit collaborator Jeff Bass of the Bass Brothers worked with Eminem on 25 tracks, for two years after the rapper had received treatment for his sleeping pill addiction in 2005.[4][16] Depressed by Proof's death, Eminem fell into a period of "writer's block", where he felt everything he wrote was not worth recording.[6] To compensate for this, Bass chose to follow a production style that would allow the artist to rap "off the top of his head, as opposed to writing a story."[16] Eminem would then freestyle or record vocals one line at a time before interrupting and then recording another line.[6] At the same time, according to Eminem's song rights supervisor Joel Martin, the rapper began collecting additional songs without noticing it, as he would often record or produce material initially intended for the musical projects of other artists, but end up with tracks he really liked.[16] "Beautiful", produced by Eminem, was the only song on Relapse that was recorded in these years while he was not sober.

Jolin Tsai signed with Sony Music that year and got the biggest break of her whole career. The first single released was the track "Spirit Of The Knight" (騎士精神), which became a big hit and led to the highly anticipated release of her album Magic (看我72變). The album turned out to be a smashing success, topping the Taiwan album charts for three full months and selling more than 300,000 copies in Taiwan alone. The album has sold over a million copies in Asia. The album boasted many of her most well-known singles, including the hit dance song that brought Tsai back to the top of the charts "See My 72 Changes" (看我72變), a song which has been suggested to have been named after The Monkey King's 72 transformations. Track 01 - Describing the behavioural style of youths who place themselves first. Jay opens the album with this song, echoing the first line: In my territory, you have to listen to me...as if a kind of confidence and declaration he has towards his own album. This is a song with a lot of style employing emphasis on "er" to give it a very chinese feel, also bringing with a slight Disney feel at the opening. This is the type of song that you either love or hate. You either love the way he uses "er" throughout the song or you hate it due to its repetitiveness. Personally it was not too bad at first but the number of "er"s is overused in my opinion. As the track one it surely gives a shock to listeners with its unique style, and perhaps even too unique of a style that may turn people off upon hearing the album from the start.

Track 02 - This is a piece by the partnership of Jay and his best partner Vincent Fang, it is a modern poetic song, it gives people a refreshing feeling like a breeze. The music is like an interesting poem, it is a new idea he longed to show. This the main ballad of the album, following the success of Fine Day from the previous album, this song goes for the same formula. The song starts off very nicely with good instruments and strong verses. The song is spoiled by the average chorus, also by the fact that the chorus is repeated too often. This is a good solid song that many will like.

Track 03 - A lyrical deep feeling rock song, it is also an easy to sing along KTV plugged song. Once again Jay writes about losing love in this song. It is very easy to listen to with nice and simple lyrics that one can easily sing along to. The song itself is nothing spectacular but worth a listen.

Track 04 - Through music, one can understand the relationship between grandson Jay and his grandmother, it is warm and endearing, the latter parts of the lyrics looks back on the Golden Melody Awards, sincerely talking about his feelings and regrets at that time. It also lets us see Jay's real temperament. There are two ways you can look at this song. Either you see Jay singing about his grandmother and being diao about not winning at the GMAs or you can see Jay as whining about not winning. However saying that, the song is mainly about his grandmother. Once again in this song we have a child's voice, only this time the child is in fact a 20 year old female colleague at Jay's company. Personally I do not like the child voices.

Track 05 - The new commercial song for Panasonic, the contents of the lyrics are taken from the topic of slaughtering battle of chinese chess. The rhythm is fast, not letting people have one moment of rest. The strange lyricist Ah Lang after In The Name Of The Father has once again written another representative work. The result is a very well written piece coupled with great rapping by Jay. The song has a strong eastern taste mixed with hip hop.

Track 06 - Jay challenges himself against the hard level of singing in "Black Humour" and "Silence", it is the song he has sung the highest note, it is more than enough to display his vocal abilities. Another slow sad love song, this time the lyrics are by Devon from Nan Quan Mama. This song can be very easily mixed up with Excuse (track 3) since they sound very alike. Personally I feel this song has the better lyrics and tune compared to Excuse and overall the song has much more feeling especially near the end when the song becomes very hard to sing.

Track 07 - From Wife, Nun-chuks, Dragon Fist to Double Blade, Jay used Chinese music to create a musical brand that no one can contend with, this song has even more spectacular creativity shown, letting the time machine of music bring you back to that fascinating dynasty. A commercial song for a popular chinese video game, Jay samples many video game sounds in the song and also inserting a comical phone call in the middle. The song is laid back and easier to listen to but it isn't a song you particular want to listen to. When you are running through the album you won't mind listening to it but usually you won't pick it deliberately to listen to. Also I think the track uses too much scratching that spoils the song slightly. This song definitely falls short in terms of a song for a video game compared to The Orcs for Warcraft 3.

Track 08 - A very strong rock song, the lyrics are by Jay's good friend Liu Geng Hong, showing off a cool Jay style storm. This song is one that is very unlike Jay to sing. Supposedly Jay first wrote this song for a newcomer at Alfa Music but after listening to it, he felt it was better suited for him to sing it himself. Personally, the song just doesn't click for me, perhaps it is because I am more used to Jay singing rnb. The song also sounds very depressing.

Track 09 - An rnb love song style, the rhythm is quick, Vincent Fang uses the school garden party as the topic that creates the vocabulary of students. Taking the listener back to the simple feelings of student period. This is a classic Jay style song, it is very obvious he took some inspiration from his past work Lovable Woman, the song is a welcome return to easy to listen to song with rnb flavour. Fans of his older albums will enjoy this song. The only flaw to this song is the lyrics, not because they are not good but because they are hard to memorise and sing to. Simple lyrics will suit this song better.

Track 10 - The battleground, children, hope, dandelion, theatre, storyteller and also old pictures...Jay has used music to direct the scene. Displaying the main vison of the entire album. It is an excellent piece of work that is very appealing and makes people think. A song about war, I have found with this song a mixed reception. Some people like it, some people don't. Personally the song is low on my playlist. The song gives off a certain uneasy feel to it with the music in the background.

Overall - A better album than the previous since it is much more closer to Jay's original style which is the style I enjoy more. The album is not without its problems, for example the inclusion of Excuse and Run Aground - two songs that just sound too much alike one another. The album is solid overall with a good balance of songs but it lacks truely classic songs that people remember.

Blackout is the fifth studio album by American pop singer Britney Spears, released by Jive Records on October 27, 2007. Spears began working on this album as early as February 2006, exploring into electropop, synthpop and techno. The album has also a more R&B/urban sound and recording with new producers such as Danja. Blackout was her first studio album in four years since 2003's In the Zone and is the first time Spears is the executive producer of one of her albums. The album's title refers to "blacking out negativity and embracing life fully". The songs on the album are thematically focused on sex, love and Spears' relationship–struggle with the media.

Blackout debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, becoming her first and so far only studio album not to debut at number one due to a last-minute rules change by the Billboard music association. According to the IFPI, the album was 32nd in terms of units shipped by the end of 2007.

The album's first single, "Gimme More", peaked at number one in the Canadian Hot 100 and became a top five hit in twelve countries. The second single, "Piece of Me", reached number one in Ireland. The final single, "Break the Ice", reached number one in the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play, making all the singles of the album go to the top position of at least a chart. All three songs frequently appeared on the lists that included the best records of the year. Even though initial critical response was mixed to positive, the album later won high critical acclaim and appeared on many lists that included the decade's best albums. Encore is the fifth studio album by American rapper Eminem. It was set for release on November 16, 2004, but was moved up to November 12 after the album was leaked to the Internet. Encore sold 1,582,000 copies in its first two weeks of release in the United States in November 2004, and was certified 4x Platinum there in mid-December. Nine months after its release, worldwide sales of the album stood at 11 million copies. Critical reception was mostly positive. However, most critics and fans alike did note the quality of the lyrics were more simplistic when compared to previous albums. The album was nominated for three Grammys at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards including for Best Rap Album, but lost to Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.

However, the album did provoke some controversy over anti-Bush lyrics and lyrics that made fun of Michael Jackson, who was upset about Eminem's depiction of him in the video for "Just Lose It".

Eminem stated that around the time Encore was being made he became addicted to prescription drugs.

It was released worldwide in November 16, 2003, by Jive Records; the album was released two days later in the United States. In the Zone debuted at number-one on the Billboard 200 albums chart, breaking her own previous record and making Spears the first female in Nielsen SoundScan history to have her first four studio albums open at number-one position in the country. The Eminem Show is the fourth studio album by American rapper Eminem, released in 2002.

The Eminem Show was the best-selling album of 2002. At the Grammy Awards of 2003 it was nominated for Album of the Year and became Eminem's third LP in four years to win the award for Best Rap Album. It has been certified 8x Platinum by the RIAA, and has sold over 9.8 million copies in the US and over 19 million albums worldwide. In 2003, the album was ranked number 317 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. It was ranked 84 on Rolling stone magazines best albums of the 2000s list. The album received critical praise by most music critics and is often debated as Eminem's most personal and best work. The Eminem Show was Eminem's first album to be mainly self-produced, and was the first Eminem album to be released under Shady Records.
Release

The Eminem Show was first scheduled for a June 2002 release; however pirated and bootleg copies appeared online on peer-to-peer networks and began surfacing on the streets. Interscope decided to release the album early on May 28 to combat bootlegging. However, many stores in the US began selling it early on Sunday May 26. Despite the confusion over the exact release date, the album still managed to have a wildly successful debut on the charts. The album sold 1.32 million copies in its first full week of sales. The Eminem Show was Eminem's most successful album in terms of charting singles. It spawned two top-ten and four top fifteen singles with "Without Me", "Cleanin' Out My Closet", "Sing For The Moment" and "Superman", which managed to reach the top ten without a video counterpart. In addition, "My Dad's Gone Crazy", "Business", "Hailie's Song", and "White America" were selected airplay singles of the controversial album.

Production

The album also saw Eminem take a substantially more predominant production role; most of it was self-produced, with longtime collaborator Jeff Bass co-producing several tracks (mainly the eventual singles). Dr. Dre, in addition to being the album's executive producer, produced three individual tracks: "Business", "Say What You Say", and "My Dad's Gone Crazy".
